THOUSANDFOLD is proud to be Manila’s first library dedicated to carefully-selected Filipino, Asian and International photobooks. An artist-run active space for contemporary photography operating as a PHOTOBOOK LIBRARY, WORKSHOP, and SMALL PRESS, our goal to step up visual literacy through hosting workshops and educational programming as well as through collaboration with artists/photographers in special projects. Our space also offers a specialty small-batch BOOKSTORE; hard-to-find independent photobooks, artist books, and handmade photozines direct from photographers/authors and publishers around the world are available through our store.
Founded in 2015 by Filipino artist/photographer Wawi Navarroza, Thousandfold was created from a deep desire to contribute to something not yet available in the Philippines. Being the first of its kind in Manila, we hope to serve as a positive addition to our local cultural milieu by providing a platform for the development, production, and promotion of formidable photographic author-works from Filipino photographers/artists, both established and emerging.
Thousandfold is a peer-led initiative invested in the development and creation of new works that tell stories in a contemporary voice. Over the past few months, Thousandfold organized FOTOSEMANA 2015—Manila’s first micro-festival for photography; published, as Thousandfold Small Press, Czar Kristoff’s first book Fugue; and recently co-curated the International Photobook Show at Obscura Photography Festival in Penang, Malaysia. Our activities reach further internationally with our continued collaborations with Asia-Pacific Photobook Archive (AU), the Indie Photobook Library (US), Self-Publish Be Happy (UK), Istituto Europeo di Design-Madrid (ES), artbooks.ph (PH), Pioneer Studios (PH), Pablo Gallery (PH) and this month at the New York Art Book Fair (PS1 Museum of Modern Art) in partnership with the Office of Culture & Design (PH).
Our Mission is sustained by MEMBERSHIPS that make it possible for Thousandfold to keep the library updated with new books, provide scholarships, and organize peer-led events that bring the community together. Through our PATRON PROGRAM, philanthropists and supporters of the Arts are able to collaborate with Thousandfold to design a much bigger involvement in the realization of projects.
Thousandfold is not just for photographers and artists, but also for curious individuals, appreciators, collectors, amateurs, and students; all are invited to get to know the diverse spectrum of contemporary photography and learn more about the artistic processes of current practitioners.
Open Thursdays—Sundays, 12nn—20:00h.
